The Beginner’s Guide to A Wrinkle in Time | In Theaters Everywhere March 9th 2018

If you follow me on social media (and if you don’t then, why don’t you?) then you know I’m pretty much all Wrinkle, all the time. HA! From the moment the announcement was made to the trailer being dropped I’ve been hype and I don’t think a day goes by that I’m not reminding y’all. In my first post about the movie, I said everyone should be excited because it was all our elementary school dreams coming true but it was brought to my attention via Facebook that there are actually people who have no idea what a Wrinkle in Time is about *gasp* … Let me drop the trailer for you one more time before I get into it.

Meg Murry is a typical middle school student struggling with issues of self – worth who just wants to fit in. The daughter of two world-renowned physicists , she is intelligent and uniquely gifted, as is Meg’s younger brother, Charles Wallace, but she has yet to realize it for herself. Complicating matters is the mysterious disappearance of Mr. Murry, which has left Meg devastated and her mother broken-hearted . Charles Wallace introduces Meg and her fellow classmate Calvin to three celestial beings (Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who) who have journeyed to Earth to help search for their father, and together they embark on their formidable quest. Travelling via a wrinkling of time and space known as tessering, they are transported to worlds beyond their imagination where they must confront a powerful evil force. To make it back home to Earth, Meg must face the darkness within herself in order to harness the strength necessary to defeat the darkness rapidly enveloping the Universe. 

So what exactly IS “A Wrinkle in Time”?

A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high-school-aged girl who is transported on an adventure through time and space via the act of tessering with her younger brother Charles Wallace and friend Calvin O’Keefe to rescue her father, a gifted scientist, from the evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet.

Tessering???

Time/Space travel is a major theme in A Wrinkle in Time and the kids are able to “tesser” through time and space with the help of the Mrs. Ws. Tessering is essentially defined by Mrs. Whatsit in the novel as a mode of travel that uses the shortest route. She illustrates it by having Mrs. Who fold her skirt and allowing a bug to travel across the wrinkle providing a short commute. A complex concept, this is the easiest way that the Mrs. Ws are able to define this to Meg.

Who/what are the Mrs. Ws?

Described as “celestial beings”, the Mrs. Ws help the children on their quest to find Mr Murry and save him from the evil force holding him captive on another planet. Though all once novas or supernovas, they have distinct characteristics that set them apart.

So there you have it! I wanted to give y’all the basic basics without giving TOO much away if you haven’t read the book and you’re just anticipating the movie. Are you excited yet? 4 Reasons I NEED You To Get Excited About Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time With Me

With all the excitement surrounding Marvel’s Black Panther dropping this coming February, I barely see A Wrinkle in Time getting any buzz and I’m starting to wonder, am I the only one thats freaking EXCITED about this movie? If you have no idea who/what this movie is about I’m going to give you a quick briefing via Youtube trailer before I tell you WHY you need to be excited about seeing this flick. 

From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic `which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. If that trailer alone wasn’t dope enough for you to get excited then first and foremost, you’re bugging! But more importantly I’m about to give you just a FEW of the reasons you need to get excited about Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time.

Your childhood reading list is coming to life 

It’s quite possible that I’m just a nerd but I can remember vividly reading A Wrinkle in Time while in school. I want to say that it was a school assignment that drew me in, but I was a pretty avid reader and read for fun back then (wish I had time now) so it’s possible I just came across the book myself and read it. Either way, I can’t wait to see the book come to life on the big screen and see if it’s everything I imagined while I was reading it back then.

Diversity and #BLACKGIRLMAGIC

The cast of A Wrinkle in Time is so beautifully diverse starring Michael Pena, Zach Galifianakis and little Deric McCabe! Ava DuVernay introduces us to Storm Reid who plays awkward teen Meg Murry. In the book, Meg is most definitely described as a young Caucasian girl so to have Storm Reid star in the lead role opens up the door for so many more girls to identify with Meg in a new way. And I mean, Meg basically saves the entire world so there’s that for #BLACKGIRLMAGIC.

Lessons on Lessons on Lessons 

Because what is a good story without them? Though saving the world is dope, so much more is learned during Meg, CW and Calvin’s adventure. Meg learns to embrace her individuality, lead with her own light and the triumph of love is a HEAVY theme.

The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Starts ALL the Conversations

Something about birthdays, Atlantic City, and the Outlander Sport must be my thing. If you’ve been around for a while then you know back in February of 2016 I drove the 2015 Outlander Sport for my 26th birthday trip to Atlantic City with my boyfriend.

When my sister wanted to go to Atlantic City for her 30th birthday I knew the Outlander was going to be the perfect vehicle to take us on our road trip! The Outlander Sport has gotten a few upgrades since their 2015 model but a lot of the amazing things about the design have remained the same. I am still absolutely in love with their sunroof because…. amazing views & selfie lighting.

Two of the main upgrades to the interior of the car is the 7″ Touchscreen Display Audio System, and the Rockford Fosgate premium sound which boasts an impressive 9 speakers throughout the car which is perfect for the hundreds of HD radio channels you an listen to in the car.  

I’m not gonna lie, I have zero sense of direction so when I couldn’t find navigation I was really confused and low-key stressed out. But thats because this was my first time driving a car that was equipped with Apple CarPlay. Super convenient having so many of my apps open up right on the display including maps! 

The Outlander Sport turned out to be a big conversation starter, the octane blue metallic color is BEAUTIFUL and everywhere we went people were stopping us to ask about the car. If crossover SUVs are your thing, I’d definitely check this car out!

3 Lessons You’ll Want to Teach Your Kids After Seeing #PixarCOCO

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post, I just saw COCO for the FIRST time and this is my takeaway from it. Carry on! 

So Zayn has a cold and RJ decided he wanted to wait until his brother was a whole 5 months old to become jealous Jesse. He wants ALL the attention and I honestly don’t blame him because sharing the people you love SUCKS. 

Anywho, since I noticed he was feeling a little bummed, I picked him up from school early the other day to take him to a “surprise”. We headed to the movies to see COCO and he was really excited! In case you have no idea what the movie is about here’s a trailer and summary: 

“Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.”

I can honestly say I loved every minute of COCO and there were multiple times I found myself ready to laugh, cry and forgetting I was in the theatre with my 3 year old LOL. I can honestly say like almost every Disney Pixar film I’ve watched I took away some REAL lessons from the film. 

 **Tiny bit of spoilers below so if you haven’t seen COCO yet, you may want to check the film out first. It’s currently playing in theaters everywhere!**

Family is everything. 

It doesn’t take long to notice the theme of family is heavily rooted within COCO. All up and through Miguel’s struggle he is constantly reminded that his family is the most important thing to remember. It’s exciting to watch him try to find himself & learning the lesson that family cannot be forgotten. 

Follow your dreams. “Seize Your Moment”.

Miguel’s family’s ban on music is CLEARLY a struggle for him. All throughout the film he expresses his desire to be a musician and is constantly reminded of his family’s hate for it. In the end, it’s his ability to stay true to himself that helps him out of the Land of the Dead to reunite him with his family and even help Mama Coco out in a special way (I CRIED at this scene).   

How people remember you after you’re gone is important. Your character determines your legacy. 

That may seem like a lesson that’s a little deep for younger kids but I still think it can be taught in a way they can understand. Miguel searched all over the Land of the Dead for Ernesto de la Cruz and it turns out he was not the man Miguel hoped he would be. Ernesto’s deceit was the face of his legacy and once he was found out, he wanted to make sure he was still remembered for the man people THOUGHT he was. 

All in all I enjoyed COCO, spending some one on one time with my big boy, and I learned something a long the way. I won all around when we saw COCO.
