Let’s Take a Minute to Talk About Wellness – ShiftCon 2019

Growing up health and wellness were not topics that I heard discussed often. When they were discussed, it was often at a time that was too late for the person to benefit from the discussion. We wait until someone passes away to talk about the long (or short) term effects of what we’re putting into our bodies. Another species goes extinct before we’re talking about the products we use and the effect it is having on the environment. These are things that by way of habit, or cultural influence have just not been a top priority. Even for myself. I’ll be the first person to admit I know very little about green living, but I do think it is time to change the narrative. Our homes, our children and our communities deserve better. That is why I was super excited to learn more about Shiftcon.

What is Shiftcon?

ShiftCon is an eco-wellness influencer conference focusing on food, wellness, health, sustainability and platform growth. Shifters are part of an online influencer community that seek healthier and more sustainable lives, promote brands that mirror their values, and help causes that speak to their soul. Our influencers span between newbies, light and deep green. Shift happens. Be part of it.

When & where is the conference held?

ShiftCon 2019 will be held in Atlanta GA this year from October 3rd – October 5th at the Grand Hyatt Buckhead. For more information on how to reserve a room within the room block click here.

Do I have to be “green” to attend?

Well I hope not, since I know very little about green living! Haha. ShiftCon Shifters welcome all shades of green. That means even if you don’t consider yourself green, we still want you as part of the community! Why? Well, we have a big job to do to fix our planet, community and food system. It’s all hands on deck and all influencers welcome! You will benefit from ShiftCon in the following ways:

  • You will learn from scientists and experts about green/wellness topics
  • You will meet brands that are safer for your family
  • You will make a ton of new friends that can help you along the way
  • And you’ll enjoy every minute

How do I attend ShiftCon?

To register and purchase your tickets for ShiftCon you can do so here.

I cannot wait to attend this amazing conference and begin the conversation on how I can do my part to learn & share about topics and products that will make living better for all of us. Will I see you there?

Where Are the Disney Junior Characters at Disney World?

As a mama to littles, we LIVE on Disney Junior. From sun up to sundown Bingo, Rolly and Nancy take over our house. So much time is spent on Disney Junior that RJ calls Vampirina my daughter and constantly reminds me that her and Nancy are my “favorite girls” (#boymom). That being said, when we go to Disney seeing Mickey and Minnie are amazing, but seeing the characters that we have grown to love on a daily basis is even more special.

As a newbie I totally expected the Disney Junior characters to be hanging out in Magic Kingdom somewhere. When you look all over the internet, everyone suggests Magic Kingdom as the one park to take your smallest Disney fans. They’re totally not there. In fact, most of your favorite Disney Junior characters can be found hanging out in Hollywood Studios in Animation Courtyard.

First Official Full Length Trailer for Toy Story 4

Am I the only one who feels like it takes forever for these movie things to come out? I mean second to Aladdin, Toy Story is the movie that I am the most excited about this year. This is basically my entire childhood. My little brother and I had countless toys (should’ve saved them), and now my boys are in love with Toy Story as well! I was really excited to see this full length trailer come out yesterday morning. I totally waited for RJ to come home from school to film a reaction video for it but in true unpredictable 4 year old fashion he wasn’t feeling it, so no reaction for this trailer. But minus the preschool cuteness, check out the official trailer for Toy Story 4 below and let me know what you think.

So who are these new toys?

GABBY GABBY – an adorable, talking pull-string doll from the 1950s. But unfortunately for her, a manufacturing defect in her pull-string voice box has left her sounding anything but adorable. She has spent more than 60 years forgotten in the depths of a jam-packed antique store—her only companions are a band of voiceless ventriloquist dummies. Gabby Gabby knows someone will want her if only she can find a working voice box to repair hers.

DUKE CABOOM – a 1970s toy based on Canada’s greatest stuntman. Riding his powerful Caboom stunt-cycle, Duke is always prepared to show off his stunt poses with confidence and swagger. However, Woody learns quickly that Duke has an Achilles heel: He has never been able to do the awesome stunts advertised in his own toy commercial. For years, Duke has been sitting in an antique store, constantly reliving the failures of his tragic past.

GIGGLE MCDIMPLES – a miniature plastic doll from the 1980s Giggle McDimples toy line. Giggle is Bo Peep’s best friend. Small enough to perch on Bo’s shoulder, Giggle is Bo’s confidant, supporter and advisor. “Giggle is Bo’s Jiminy Cricket—we’re able to get insight on Bo through their relationship together,” says Cooley. “Giggle is definitely the smallest toy in the Toy Story universe. She’s been stepped on, vacuumed up, and probably put up a kid’s nose in her time.”

BENSON – a classic, antique ventriloquist dummy, and Gabby Gabby’s right hand. He leads a small group of ventriloquist dummies that serve as Gabby’s henchmen. With no person to give them a voice, these silent toys patrol the antique store with a looming quietness that is inherently unsettling.

LEADING THE WAY — In Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story 4,” Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky, declares himself trash and not a toy, so Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. Featuring Tom Hanks as the voice of Woody, and Tony Hale as the voice of Forky, “Toy Story 4” opens in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019. ©2019 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

About Toy Story 4:

Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.

Disney·Pixar’s TOY STORY 4 ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.

5 Tips to Deal with Maternal Separation Anxiety

You never really know what kind of parent you’re going to be. I worried from the very beginning about the type of mom I would be. Would I be too easy going? Would my kids listen? Am I capable of providing my children with a life that wouldn’t require therapy some 15-20 years down the line? Parenting is a constant merry go round of one worry or the other and no one can quite prep you for just how it feels. But the one thing I didn’t expect to worry about as much as I do? Leaving them.

It’s not like separation anxiety is a new topic in the parenting community. If you google it you can find tons of articles and sites dedicated to how to deal with separation anxiety through all ages of infancy and adolescence. But what happens when the shoe is on the other foot? I know I can’t be the only mom out there whose heart beats a little faster when it’s time for me to leave my kids. My anxiety is not that bad, I’m not talk about a regular day to do basis in which I leave and go to work. However, I have been blessed with many opportunities to travel recently and it never fails, a few days before it’s time to go the voices in my head go crazy and the dread creeps in.
